Google adds a ‘Free App of the Week’ promotion to the Play Store

Google has quietly rolled out a new section to their Play Store where users can get one paid app for free. In late February, Google allowed developers to make their paid apps and game temporarily free instead of just a discounted price. The first app to be featured in the new section is Card Wars – Adventure Time (which would normally go for $3.99 CAD). Another things to note, is that even though this game is free right now, there is in-app purchases.Source: Google Play via Android Police

IKEA is getting into the smart home game, with their TRÅDFRI system

IKEA, the Swedish company that’s known for affordable furniture that frustrates customers while they’re building them, has introduced a new smart lighting system. It’s called TRÅDFRI (which means wireless in Swedish) and it uses the ZigBee Light Link standard which is also used in the Philips Hue products. The TRÅDFRI  system was released to select European countries last fall but the system is getting a wider release to more European countries and North America in the coming weeks. Just like Philips Hue, TRÅDFRI uses a hub device that connected to your router via an Ethernet connection and a local TRÅDFRI network is created. The TRÅDFRI Gateway kit comes with two LED light bulbs (E26), a dimmer switch and the hub for $79.99 USD. Extra bulbs will costs $11.99 USD each and there are remote control switches, motion sensor kits, LED light panels and more coming later. There will also be a TRÅDFRI app for Android and iOS. You can see for yourself all the offerings in the TRÅDFRI system, here.…

Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant will make its debut in the Galaxy S8

There’s not shortage of voice assistants on smartphones nowadays. There’s Siri, the Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Cortana but Samsung will be joining the voice assistant game with Bixby.Bixby or Viv as it was formerly known as, was developed by the same team behind Siri but it’s much more advanced. Bixby was designed to make interacting with your Samsung device much easier and faster. You’ll still be able to ask Bixby all the usual questions like how far is the moon or what’s the weather. But instead, Bixby can connect to certain apps on your phone and the things that your apps offer. All the functions that could be accessed via tapping through the app, can be access via your voice. For example, you could share a photo or video via the built-in gallery or navigate the web, all without setting your finger on the screen. But the key thing to make this all work, will be app support. Bixby will first launch on the Galaxy S8 with support for several pre-installed apps (most likely Samsu…

Designer shows off (RED) iPhone 7 concept with black front

Earlier this week, Apple announced a (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus but there was just one problem with it. It has a white front which some people (myself included) found to be not the best combination for the (RED) iPhone.Thankfully, a render artist by the name of Benjamin Geskin shared his concept on Twitter of the(RED) iPhone 7  but with a black front.iPhone 7 (RED) with black front.#iPhoneRED#iPhone7REDhttp://pic.twitter.com/wferyEcBwl— Benjamin Geskin (@VenyaGeskin1) March 21, 2017 Overall, the red iPhone 7 looks much better with a black front than it does with a white front. Even though its just a concept, Apple should have given the option of getting the (RED) iPhone 7 with either a black or white front.Other than the new colour, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition is almost the exact same software and features as the current iPhone 7 line. The  iPhone 7 & 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition will be available set you back $1029 CAD fo…
